Dispute Between Multan Sultans and PCB Deepens

Tensions between Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) intensified on Wednesday, as franchise owner Ali Khan Tareen once again accused the board of withholding the team’s valuation and renewal letter. Tareen warned that legal action may be the next step if the PCB continues to ignore their requests.

The dispute gained momentum last month when Ali Tareen publicly accused PSL management of mismanagement, leaking confidential information, and lacking transparency in the valuation process. The situation further escalated after the PSL announced the addition of two new teams and confirmed that the independent valuation process for existing franchises had been completed.

Ali Tareen reiterated his concerns on social media platform X, stating that the PCB has stopped communicating with them, forcing the franchise to raise the issue publicly. According to him, Multan Sultans have sent multiple emails over the last month requesting their valuation and renewal letter—documents that other teams have already received—but have not received any response. Even a formal legal notice and a letter addressed to the PCB chairman went unanswered.

He revealed that other franchises are also questioning why Multan Sultans are being excluded from the renewal process, but the board has not provided any explanation. Tareen warned that if the PCB continues this “ghosting,” they will be compelled to pursue legal action, although the franchise sees this as a last resort.

Calling the entire situation “completely unnecessary,” Tareen said it could have easily been resolved over a simple meeting, but poor management has turned a minor issue into a major dispute. While he hopes reason will eventually prevail, he added that the current circumstances do not inspire confidence.

The PCB, on the other hand, maintains that renewal offer letters reflecting the updated franchise valuations have been sent to all franchises compliant with PSL regulations. The board stated that it has also arranged group and individual sessions between the franchises and the independent valuer to ensure transparency and address any queries.
